Body Shapes

Below is my research on women's body shapes......

Celebrity Body Shapes...... 

I am going to start with the hourglass figure and who else is a better example than Kim Kardashian?? 

Petite celebrity Kim Kardashian is known for her Hourglass figure which is envied by women everywhere, the hourglass-shaped figure consists of a relatively tiny waist, balanced by almost-equal-sized bust and hips that usually are 10 inches or more larger than the waist.

Although the hourglass-shaped figure is considered desirable and men love it, it can be a bit difficult to dress, but Kim Kardashian seems to have no problem. Kim Kardashian makes sure that her clothing is tailored to show off her assets to best advantage.

  

Pear Shaped Celebrities 

The main traits of your Pear shaped body are:

Wider hips and thighs 

Narrower shoulders 

Wider bottom 

Smaller bust

Looking fabulous is about he way you dress and how put your self across.

If you have a rectangular or boy shaped body with very little curves, you don't have to spend a lot of time and money trying to slim down and shape up like some women have to.

The main traits of your boyish shaped body are:

Small Bust 

Just a few well known celebrities with boyish shaped figures are Reese Witherspoon, Keira Knightley, Cameron Diaz and Trinny Woodall.

Apple Shaped Celebrities

I have been asked to dress four different scenarios, the four being......

A 20 year old- size 16, hourglass figure who is going for a job interview in banking. 

65 year old size 12, mother of the bride outfit. 

16 year old size 10, tube body shape going to prom. 

Finally a 40 year old lady, size 14, apple attending a summer ball.   

Number 1 

This is the suit design below that  I have chosen for a 20 year old women with an hourglass figure going to a job interview at a bank. This jacket flatters her small waist. Darts at the waist and a this tailored silhouette is the best the  option for her figure as it accentuates the focal point, while lengthening the neckline. Given that this body type can wear most anything, skirt choices are plentiful. However, the A- line skirt I have chosen here is on of a few standout skirt styles to complement your suit. I have chosen a dark colour as darker fabrics are more flattering for a larger figure. I also think this colour is more stylist for my younger customer showing a bit of style rather than just a pain black or grey suit. 

The price for this suit came to £240, bag is £45. This is a suit that could be worn at any season and will still look as smart as ever. Wear with either the shoes worn in the photo or a plain black court shoe. 

Number 2 

Mother of the bride out aged 65 years with a pear body shape below is the dress I have chosen...    

                   

I have chosen this design as its a very elegant dress which I believe is suitable for a 65 year old woman, also being a long dress this elongates the pear figure making the legs look longer and less emphasis on the lower body. The beautiful detail on the top of the dress is great as this makes the top half the main view point therefore being distracted away from the other areas we wish not to be as focussed on. The band across the middle defining her waist is also a great feature to the dress.  Worn with simple jewellery and a small clutch with matching shoes to add to the elegant look, letting the dress be the main feature. The total cost for this dress is £150.

   

Number 3 

I have chosen this prom dress because it is very girly. On your prom night you want a special dress, a design that you might not of worn before, every sixteen year old wants the princess feel on prom and I think this is the dress to do just that. As my customer has a tube body shape, being the similar size all over, you need a dress which creates a waist this dress achieves this with the ruffles across the middle pulling in to create a tiny waist. On the bottom of the dress the ''puffball effect'' looks great creating curves that weren't there before. Showing off those great legs on a pair of glittery heels and that is a fabulous outfit for a prom queen. The price of this dress comes to £165. 

Number 4 

For my Garden party outfit this flattering seam of an empire line dress is not only a very classic and elegant style but also looks amazing on ladies with a apple shape. It skims over the torso disguising around her stomach and giving the appearance of a streamlined body. This rich blue colour is great for the summer with a glittery waist band adding a touch of glamour. Silver shoes that match her jewellery and accessories.  The total cost of this outfit comes to a £170. 

   

                                            I have also researched men's body shapes....... 

Body type is exclusive for every individual. Just like women concentrate in their body shape for figure, the same plays a crucial role for appeal in men. 

Every guy of these days wants to flaunt with six-packs, this can be easy if we know the right approach. Here is an overview of male body types and tips to make the best out of their construct. There are three general body types. The horizontal measure is to be concentrated for dressing. 

The body types are: 

  

Endomorph: 

They have larger bones, larger thighs and rounded face giving them stocky appearance. They have high body fat than other body types. 

Mesomorph: 

They are said to have athletic build with broad shoulders and narrow waist. They can gain and lose weight easily than endomorphs. 

Ectomorphs: 

They are thin, linear with narrow hip and shoulders. They have the lowest body fat of all body types. They find it hard to gain weight. 

Depending on body shape men can be:

I have chosen three scenarios and evaluated each one the three i have chosen are a Music Tour, Magazine shoot, and a Music Video all for Rihanna. i have shown the roles and reponsibilities of a fashion stylist for each one.  

Magazine Shoot for Rihanna.....

   

Over is the magazine cover of Vogue featuring Rihanna. The Fashion stylist for this particular front cover would have had to communicate well with the hair and makeup stylish in order for them to get the right look, all in proportion each complimenting one another. 

Here is a list of the things the stylish would have had to decide or organise,

·         Colours of makeup.

·         Overlook styling of hair.

·         Colour of background or props .

·         The clothing been worn.

·         Decided to models position.

·         Angle of camera.

·         Light or dark focus.

·         Consider the message/ look that wants to be given, right for this particular magazine.

·         Be responsible for the way everything looks.

·         Their job to make the model look good, flattering.

·         Decides what part of the outfits to be shown on the photo or not.

·         How big the photo will be compared to the back drop or props.

·         What features are to stand out the most/ what to hide.

·         Lighting and colours. These may have to be changed to compliment clothing colour or fabric. It is their decision to change that to make the photo the best it can be.

·         Any accessories will have to bring along items from home. Any problems holes in clothing shoes don’t fit will be down to the stylist to fix the issue. E.g. shoes, hair pieces, jewellery, underwear choices.

·         Everything organised and ready on time.  Everything should be ready for the photographer.

·         Whist the shoot is taking place if clothing comes out of place or changes are to be made it is the stylist’s job to change that quick and professionally ready to continue on with the shoot.  


Music Tour...  

A Fashion Stylist has huge responsibility at a music tour. They would have to travel with Rihanna and style which every performance it may be. The stylist would have to consider where the location is who her audience is at the time to what clothing and accessories would be suitable to dress her in for that particular show. Not only would it be Rihanna to style there would be backing dancers and singers who would also have to be styled to the theme.  Rihanna needs to stand out, however a similar choice of colours and style for the dancers or backing singers needs to be taken in to consideration.  Lots of time and effort will be put in to create the correct “look” people want and are expecting to see when Rihanna performs. So this would be down to the stylist to make sure this look is achieved.  Below are the things that would be considered by a stylist make decisions on when styling Rihanna and her team for a music tour…..

·         The number of outfit changes in each show.

·         Choose the right outfit to suit a particular song Melody/upbeat.

·         Matching colours of backgrounds or screens for each outfit and song.

·         Location different outfit choice.

·         Microphone design/colour.

·         Colour of staging and props.

·         Outfit must be easy to move in, think about which outfits are best to dance in. which are best or most effective in the more stationary songs.

·         Lighting, special effects.  

·         If Rihanna is comfy not restricted in movement. Weather changes. Warm cold clothing. Outdoors or indoors.

·         Keep on trend to where the location is.

·         Clothing to compliment hair and makeup.

Music Video ......


 

I have chosen Rihanna’s music video to Only Girl in the World.

There were lots of different outfit changes, angles of camera shoots and locations. The stylist would have had to change her outfit, hair, makeup, accessories to complement each video clip. The theme seems to be summer, outdoors. All the clothes and colours will have to link in with each other after each outfit change, each outfit being effective and just as unique.

·         Is the Clothing meant to compliment the location or stand out?

·         Timing be quick all outfits ready as they might not have long to video.

·         Themes to suit clothes, hair makeup.

·         Decide on outfit changes and which part of the song.

·         What clothes will be worn in which location.

       · Any props will be decided by the stylist and with which  outfit.

       ·         Flatter Rihanna what she wants to look like be styled as, think about her opinion.

·         Who her audience is what the lyrics of the songs are.

·         What look they want to put across to the public. Is it suitable clothing for all ages?

·         Extra clothing and accessories/props.

·         What time of day the photo will be taken.

·         Think about the angle the photo will be taken at what parts of the outfit will be seen.

Roles and Responsibilities of a Fashion Stylist  

Fashion Stylists can go from working with celebrity clients to styling models for photo shoots. Fashion Stylists get lots of exciting opportunities.

They use their talent in many different area's from music videos to advertisements to TV shows and movies. Which ever area they may be working in they collaborate very closely with photographers, channelling their concept of fashion through the photographic shoot.

A Fashion Stylist can be considered as a visual journalist or commentator, the link that joins the world of clothing manufacture with customers or readership of fashion magazines with stylists having the ability and skill to interpret trends and current tastes makes them one of the principle creators of fashion and style.

A good Fashion Stylist knows how to accentuate the positive attributes of the people they dress. Choosing the right outfit that flatters someone in a way that is appropriate for each event no matter what your figure or body shape.

Stylists must have a wide range of knowledge of the fashion industry and the ability to match clients with clothing that will support the image they want to project. When putting a look together they must use their knowledge to consider  a number of factors such as colour and fit.

The best stylists can take conventional pieces and use them in unconventional ways, in others words they are clothing inventors.

They want to make all their clients look and feel good. Stylists must have a strong ability to communicate, compromise between their own style and opinions and their clients, to influence without overpowering.

They also need to be very business minded as most Fashion Stylists are self employed so they need to be able to run their own business. Maintain client relationships and handle administrative tasks or hire others to do them.
